Barreirinhas
Barreirinhas is a municipality in the state of Maranhão, No brazil. The municipality is known for being the “Gateway” of the tourist region known as Lençóis Maranhenses, which consists of a vast area of high white sand dunes and lakes and lagoons, also known as “Brazilian Desert”. It has a population of 62.458 inhabitants in 2017 .
Until the 16th century, the region currently occupied by the municipality was traditionally inhabited by the indigenous ethnicity of the potiguaras.[5]
Economia
The city has urban commerce and the region called Feirinha, in the city center. Fishing is another profitable economic sector, because the Preguiças River is a very extensive river with several varieties of fish.
Local agriculture relies on banana plantations, watermelons, of course, the corn, cassava and beans.
Delta Wind Complex 3
The city is home to 48 wind turbines of the Delta III Wind Complex, that generates 220 MW e 13% of state energy..
Petroleum
The region has the Barreirinhas Basin “BM-BAR-1” and “BM-BAR-3”, which are oil wells at a depth of 2000 a 2500 meter. Drill ships “Deepwater Discovery” (at the service of Devon Energy) and “NS 27” (Petrobras) drilling in the region since the beginning of 2009.
